Walkfit Orthotics Insole Reviews: The Theory and the Practice

Walkfit orthotics are removable insoles placed in the shoe designed to support and correct the posture while standing, walking, running or jumping.  Walkfit have been developed on the back of research into gait analysis, anatomy and physiology.

Inside our feet is a complex pattern of interconnected bones, joints, tendons and ligaments.  This research shows that bad posture and body misalignment from wearing poorly designed shoes can cause significant joint damage over a period of time.  The problems may start in the foot but ultimately progresses to cause problems in the knees, back and hips.  The beauty of orthotic shoe inserts is that once you correct the alignment of the foot and ankles, the rest of the body also becomes aligned including the knees, hips, back, shoulders and neck.

Improvements from orthotics

The use of corrective shoe inserts and shoes with built in orthotics such as the Orthaheel brand, have been linked to improved comfort when walking, running or standing. Specifically:

  • Improved daily wear comfort.
  • Better stability and balance.
  • Relief from shin splints.
  • Reduced aggravation from foot calluses, bunions, corns, hammer toes.
  • Better posture.
  • Joint pain relief (particularly hip, ankle and knee).
  • Relief from back pain.
  • Relief from arthritis.
  • Stronger heels and ankles.
  • Better weight distribution.
  • Joint protection through shock absorption.
  • Restored natural foot function and balance of joints, tendons, ligaments and bones in the foot.
  • Relief from over pronation (feet rolling inward).
  • Better arch support.
  • Relief from heel pain caused by plantar fasciitis (the Walkfit insole converts your shoes into a plantar fasciitis shoes)

Walkfit insoles should not be confused with shoe lifts (or elevator insoles) which are designed to make the wearer look taller. Walkfit orthotics come with three inserts: Low, medium and high depending on your foot arch height. These are changed by lifting back the top of the Walkfit orthotic insoles and replacing the insert. Walkfit shoe inserts have special cushions to support the foot when it strikes the ground, a heel cup to prevent ankle twists and arch support.

Starting out with orthotics

It can take a bit of time to get used to your new foot position and they may be uncomfortable at first.  Build up slowly over several days and weeks to full time wear.  Ultimately you shouldn’t even notice that you are wearing them. If they become painful, stop using them and speak with a health professional.

People with a severe physical impairment and spinal abnormalities should seek advice from an experienced podiatrist or physician before using Walkfit insoles.  In addition diabetics, people which chronic foot pain, degenerative arthritis and circulation problems should seek approval from their doctor before use.  These days an increasing number of shoe brands are not designed with foot and gait health in mind.
